Xiaomi’s new Mi TV Lux OLED Transparent Edition has been launched in China by Xiaomi as a part of their 10 years anniversary event . This is announced along with the other two ultra phones today by Xiaomi, Mi 10 Ultra and Redmi K30 Ultra.
The TV is so futuristic and has “cutting-edge display technology and exquisite industrial design” as stated by the company. It is the world’s first mass produced “transparent” TV. It has the 55” FHD (1,920×1,080 pixels) OLED display which is see through along with high refresh rate and better colors which has a static contrast ratio of 150,000:1, 10-bit color panel that displays 1.07 billion color combinations, and 93% coverage of DCI-P3.
The refresh rate is as high as 120Hz along with MEMC motion interpolation, so the display will be so smooth as butter with 1ms pixel response time. The fast response rate makes gaming so real and lifelike with smooth controls and low latency.
Basically the TV uses the Transparent OLED technology which is called as the TOLED and it does not use any backlighting, each diode emits it’s own light. All the circuits and units required for the display are located at the bottom of the TV in a circular base, that is all the display uses so you will not be able to wall mount it. The TV’s screen looks like a fully transparent glass when switched off and images look like floating in air when switched on. The company states that the TV displays” awe-inspiring colors that brings images to life.”
The TV also supports Always-on-display and has many customization available for the users. The objects behind the TV and the lighting of the room will surely alter the viewing experience. Until today there were only prototypes of such TV from LG, Panasonic and others, this is the first Transparent Smart TV that is coming from Xiaomi.
“The pictures it displays seem to be floating in the air, merging the virtual and the real to bring an unprecedented visual experience,” as said by Xiaomi. The TV is powered by the custom made MediaTek 9650 which runs with AI Master Smart Engine with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage.
It also supports Dolby Atmos Audio along with Dolby Digital Plus and DTS-HD. The TV runs on custom made MIUI for TV specifically designed to enhance the transparent viewing experience. The TV supports dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v5.0 and has three HDMI ports, two USB ports, an AV port, and an Ethernet port.
The transparent Xiaomi TV will go on sale on August 16th in China, there is no information on when the TV will be available in India.
Mi TV Lux OLED Transparent Edition is priced at CNY 49,999 which is approximately Rs.5.37 lakhs. The company is yet to make announcements about the availability in India and other global markets. So if you are looking to buy a premium or futuristic TV, you can wait for this TV to be announced.
