WhatsApp is testing new search for stickers shortcut feature

Even though WhatsApp’s Privacy Policy case is still in courts, the social-media platform is still working on providing new features. According to a report by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is testing a new feature under the hood that will allow users to search stickers as a shortcut way.

As the reports suggest, WhatsApp’s new sticker shortcut will help users to look for appropriate stickers effortlessly. It is currently in work in WhatsApp beta build #2.21.12.1 on Android. Thus, this new feature is available for only Android Beta users for now, but we expect it will soon be available for all users.

This new feature will suggest users a sticker that is appropriate to the context of their text message in WhatsApp chat box.

How will it work?

Here is how “search for sticker shortcut feature” is going to work. As soon as you start typing a word or anything inside the WhatsApp chat box, the emoji icon present on the left side will change its colour. The change in colour will be indicative of appropriate stickers, based on your text or keyword.

Next, all you need to do is “tap on the emoji icon” and you will be able to catch sight of all the stickers (relevant to your text obviously).

One important thing to note here is that the “search for sticker shortcut” feature will not take in stickers from any third-party applications or stickers created by users on WhatsApp Sticker Maker application. But the good news is, that users can link their created stickers to a related word, this might help with WhatsApp to recognise those stickers in the coming future.

If you want to make sure whether or not the “search for sticker shortcut” feature is available on your device; simply try typing in a keyword for instance “Hello”, and see if the emoji icon changed its colour or not.

If the colour changes to green then kudos & enjoy and, if not; then ,you can try updating WhatsApp Beta version on your Android device. As mentioned already this feature is limited to a few Android users only for now.

But we believe it will soon be available for all users globally, including iOS users as well (but we don’t know the exact date). Other than this, WhatsApp recently rolled out 2 new features which includes, “introducing Refugee flag in the flag section” and the feature to “mute archive chats forever.”
