China’s Vivo, known for its photography-oriented phones, launched one of its most unique smartphones, in India – Vivo X50 and X50 Pro. The highlight of the X50 Pro is undoubtedly the Gimbal camera that moves the camera in the opposite direction of shaking motions, providing clearer handheld shots.
It is powered by Qualcomm’s 7nm Snapdragon 765G chipset, paired with up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB UFS 2.1 storage. The handset has a total of four sensors, of which there is a 60x periscope lens as well with a curved display.
The Gimbal Camera
Vivo says the system widens the rotation angle, as well as the anti-shake area, compared to other stabilization methods. That means it should be able to compensate for some very jerky movements. The company claims, should be “super clear images.” As a result, when you tilt, pan, or roll the camera, the gyroscope calculates the direction and displacement caused by the shake and makes the gimbal module move in the opposite direction to compensate for the shakes.
All of this happens in real-time, while you are shooting. Vivo claims the module adjusts with a refresh rate of 100Hz to stabilise the frame. At the front, you get a 32-megapixel sensor with f/2.4 aperture. Other features included are a 12-megapixel portrait lens (50mm focus), 8-megapixel periscope telephoto lens and an 8-megapixel wide-angle macro camera as well with 120-degree field of view.
Other camera features
This comes in addition to the Starry Sky mode – wherein the camera clicks the sky in different brightness levels to get the best shot. The company also said the gimbal-structure helps improve the overall light sensitivity, especially in low-light, by keeping the frame stable when shooting in low-light, hand-held. It is that one feature that is present across the board, whether you are shooting a photo or a video. There’s a Noise zooming feature as well. With this, you can increase the volume of the subject when you zoom in to 10x. Also notable is the 7.49mm thickness of the X50, which makes it the slimmest 5G phone ever.
In terms of software features, all the X50 phones have Super Night Mode, Astro Mode, Super Wide-Angle, and Super Macro functions (yes, that’s a lot of “supers”), which are fairly self-explanatory and on par what’s offered on other recent flagship phones. The both Vivo X50 and X50 Pro offer Bluetooth 5.1, dual mode 5G support, Wi-Fi 6 and 33W fast charging.
