There are no plans for Samsung TV to replace Tizen with Android: Samsung

Earlier this week, Google astonished everyone by declaring that they were working with Samsung for an upgraded edition of Wear OS. The coalition showed that the future Samsung smart wearables would appear with the software rather than Tizen. The collaboration had also led to the hypothesis that Samsung was abandoning Tizen for Smart TVs as it supported Android TV. Samsung TV will not abandon Tizen for any other software, as Samsung has now clarified this won’t happen.

A Samsung representative stated “Tizen still is the default platform for our smart TVs going forward,”. Samsung’s determination to remain with Tizen for smart TVs is not strange and astonishing considering that the company is a big brand in the market. The brand is one of the largest manufacturers in the space, and the TV market is a lot dissimilar from the one for smartwatches.

Tizen’s website says that “Tizen project resides within the Linux Foundation and is governed by a Technical Steering Group. The Technical Steering Group is the primary decision-making body for the open-source project, with a focus on platform development and delivery, along with the formation of working groups to support device verticals.”

Samsung devices, with the Galaxy Fit 2 Pro and Galaxy Watch Active runs on Tizen. So, for a long time, Tizen is an important component in the Samsung wearables as it powers them. So, Samsung has decided not to abandon it due to the collaboration with Google.
