Sandeep Ranade, an Indian Developer Wins Apple Design Award 2021 at WWDC 2021 For Classical Music App ‘NaadSadhana’

Apple has announced twelve awards to app designers and developers this year at its annual event – the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference or WWDC 2021. The most significant bit of this announcement from the Indian perspective is that this year Sandeep Ranade, an Indian developer and software engineer has been felicitated with the prestigious Apple design Award 2021. He was donned with this distinction for designing and developing a classical music app called ‘NaadSadhana’. Officially the app is described as an “all-in-one, studio-quality music app that helps musicians of all genres and any expertise perform and publish their music without boundaries.”

Delighted at his success, Ranade expressed joy and told the media that he is still in awe of what has happened and couldn’t believe that he has actually won the Apple Design Award 2021. As of the app, ‘NaadSadhana’ has been awarded the best app in the innovation category by the tech giant. The app is aimed at promoting Indian classical music and songs till now but now reports suggest that it is expanding its genres and will soon add seven new categories namely Carnatic, Devotional, Semi-classical, Hindustani Classical, Bollywood, Western and fusion as well.

The app is used by musicians and vocal artists to improve their notes and vocals as the app uses artificial intelligence, neuroscience, learning theory, digital signal processing and novel research, with the help of which it provides feedback by listening to the vocals sung by the artist. The feedback sheds a light on the note accuracy and also generates a real time back track as well. Many singers have appreciated the features present in the app and have said that the app indeed helped them in improvising their vocal notes.

Susan Prescott, the vice president of Apple’s Worldwide Developer Relations appreciated the winners and stated, “This year’s Apple Design Award winners have redefined what we’ve come to expect from a great app experience, and we congratulate them on a well-deserved win.” Renowned Grammy and Academy Award winning musician AR Rehman has also appreciated Ranade’s efforts and as revealed by the developer, earlier he had also appreciated the ‘Na Corona’ song created by him on the app itself using its real time features.
