The Microsoft Surface Duo is also known as the Surface Duo. It is an upcoming foldable device announced during Microsoft’s Surface hardware conference back in October of last year. It has officially debuted today. Surface Duo will release on 10th September in the US. It is a new dual-screen device that will fit in your pocket.
The Microsoft Surface Duo will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor. The device is based on Android and it will support android apps along with Microsoft 365. It will feature two 5.6-inch AMOLED displays that fold out into an impressive 8.1”, 401 dpi screen with a screen-resolution of 1800×1350 pixels. The Surface Duo is using real Gorilla Glass. The two displays are connected by a revolutionary 360° hinge. It will come with 6GB of RAM and 256GB of in-built storage. And it will not have 5G support.
Microsoft Surface Duo will come with a single 11-megapixel f/2.0 camera. Presumably, the single camera will do nearly all types of photography there is to expect from the device. The device will have features such as HDR, 4K 60fps, superzoom, and electronic image stabilisation. In addition, it will come with a 3775mAh battery. The battery is split into two halves. Each half is placed under each display on the Surface Duo. The company claims that the battery can run for 10 days with 27 hours of talk time and up to 15.5 hours of local video playback. However, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 which is a foldable phone, is powered by a 4500mAh battery. It also supports proprietary fast charging.
To allow PC-like productivity regardless of user is, Microsoft is enabling a seamless transition between various app sizes on multiple displays. It will let you work without stopping. There is no need to stop your work or to switch apps or close an app to copy and paste or even switch apps to open a link. The company is using an algorithm which predicts the best use of the display for apps. This suggests that you can open or work on two apps. The website or apps will be opened on the same screen in a split manner.
The Microsoft Surface Duo costs $1,399 i.e. roughly Rs 1.04 lakh in the US market. It is available for pre-order at AT&T, Microsoft’s online store, and Best Buy. The phone will be available for purchase in-store and online from 10th September 2020, onwards. The company will be also shipping a bumper cover in the box, designed to protect the Surface Duo. As for now, the foldable is not coming to India, at least right now. In India, we have Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 and Motorola’s Moto Razr, foldable phones which are available for purchase.
