The whole new UI characteristic referred to as “Backchannel” came out unexpectedly. Now, few users are able to access this feature, but it will be made available to the public in the future. It seems like Clubhouse is working on a DM text chat feature and we may see it soon.
CEO of the company Clubhouse Paul Davison earlier in the company town hall talked over the DM text features to be added to the Backchannel. However, the backchannel screen was blank without any text note that signifies that the company is still working on creating the text chat feature.
I think that there are so many people who do DM backchannels all the time, so many people who want to deepen friendships and relationships with people and do all sorts of other stuff — I think this is something that we should have.

Chris Messina also talked over the Backchannel feature and compared the feature to its rival, the Greenroom by Spotify and asserted both of them to be similar. The Greenroom is identical to Clubhouse and has a live chat room which can be reached by sliding right into the app.
The appearance of the Backchannel by Clubhouse will be altered. One of the co-founders of Clubhouse said the feature won’t be coming immediately. He also didn’t share any specific information on the traditional format being remade. He did not give any satisfactory information about whether or not the one on one messaging feature is removed or will there be a favourable group chat feature.
“As part of our product building process, Clubhouse regularly explores and tests potential features. These functions sometimes become part of the app, sometimes they don’t.” said a member of the Clubhouse when approached by TechCrunch for more evidence on Backchannel. From what he said it is clear that a new messaging feature might pop up.
