Aarogya Setu has become the most downloaded contact tracing app in the world. It has more than 15 crore users. And now Aarogya Setu It has rolled out a new feature called ‘Open API Service.’ This will enable organisations to get the health status of their employees. They can get information without violating their data privacy. The government body has announced this new service via their official Twitter handle.
How will this new feature work?
The ‘Open API Service’ can be used by organisations and businesses who are registered with more than 50 employees. They can use it to query the Aarogya Setu application in real-time. With the help of this they will get the health status of their employees. They can also get the health status of any other Aarogya Setu user. They will get the health status of only those people who have provided their consent. In addition, no other personal data will be provided through the API.
Further the business or organisation would be required to submit details such as:
- Registration number of the firm or entity with the government
- Details of the person registering on behalf of the organisation
- Purpose for which the firm will be using Open API
The above-mentioned points are a part of the mandatory process. Firms can register for Open API Service using this link https://openapi.aarogyasetu.gov.in.
After the registration process, a new developer account will be created. This account will provide an API Key. This will help to access Aarogya Setu Open API service. Further, for activating it for a particular API, navigate to APIs. Find the API you want. Then you need to Click subscribe. Further API Key will get subscribed to the API. And you can make calls to its methods.
The release by the Ministry of Electronics and IT said, “In order to help businesses and the economy to start functioning while being safe, the Open API Service enables organisations to check the status of Aarogya Setu and integrate it into its various Work from Home features.”

- E-pass integration
- QR Code scanning
- Sharing of Health status with family/known persons
As for now, the Aarogya Setu app has helped to identify more than 30,000 virus hotspots. Further, more than 6.6 million Bluetooth contacts have been traced. The application has been quite successful in aiding the efforts of frontline health workers.
